Core Prerequisite Course Requirements

The core prerequisite course requirements that must be satisfied prior to enrollment in the program are:

If you are currently taking an outstanding pre-requisite course, a progress report (at mid semester) from the instructor (on the school letterhead with a grade) must be submitted before your application will be reviewed.

example: if you are applying to start in January, but you are currently taking the microbiology prerequisite, send a progress report at the end of October

  • Chemistry with laboratory (4 credits)*
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology I & II with laboratory (8 credits) *
  • Microbiology with laboratory (4 credits) *
  • Psychology (3 credits)** ††
  • Sociology (3 credits)** †
  • Statistics (3 credits)**

 

Each core prerequisite course must be completed with a grade of "C" or 2.0 and higher.

* Science courses must be completed within 5 years of admission.
** Other courses must be completed within 10 years of admission.
All of the core prerequisite courses must be undergraduate 100 level or higher
†† The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam can be substituted. (See requirements below.)

Admission Requirements

  • A completed UMDNJ-SN application for admission with the $50.00 application fee.
  • Transcripts documenting graduation from a regionally accredited U.S. or equivalent college or university with a bachelor's degree
  • or higher; and, all transcripts of all colleges/universities previously attended. Students who are not graduates of a College or University in the United States must provide an evaluation by a Transcript Agency.
  • A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 from a regionally accredited baccalaureate institution.
  • A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 in the prerequisite science courses
  • A personal statement of goals and objectives.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • A minimum score of 95 out of 120 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for applicants who are not graduates of a U.S. college or university (UMDNJ - SN code: 2621).Contact ETS: 1-800-468-6335 or ets.org
  • For Psychology and Sociology requirements the CLEP exam (College Board code: 0769 ) can be substituted. A minimum score of 50 is required.
  • Evidence of current American Heart Association (800-242-8721) Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider certification for Adult, Child, Infant and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Upon admittance to the program, the following items must be completed by the student:

  • Current physical examination and required immunizations
  • Completion of criminal background check

Transfer credits

A student admitted into the Accelerated BSN program may request transfer of academic credits for course work completed at another accredited institution. Up to six transfer credits for non-clinical courses may be applied with the approval of the Assistant Dean. Courses must have been completed no more than five years prior to request for transfer. Grades must be at least a "C+" or above. Students must fill-out and submit the Request for Transfer Credit form as well as the course description, course objectives and content outline for the course(s) they want to receive credit for. Requests must be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to taking the ABSN course for which the student wants credit.
