Preparing Nurses for practice at the highest levels of our healthcare system

As the first New Jersey nursing school to offer the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree, we are the state’s leader in preparing nurses for practice at the highest levels of our healthcare system—whether at the beside or in the boardroom. Now, we are pleased to offer you this new option for DNP study.

  • Open to BSN-prepared RNs
  • 83 credits
  • Qualify for Pediatric NP certification
  • Study in Newark or Stratford, NJ

The DNP with Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Specialty Program at UMDNJ-SN is for bachelor’s-prepared RNs seeking a doctoral degree. The curriculum will focus on child development and behavior, parenting, health promotion, disease prevention, and the management of common illnesses in children. Pediatric Advanced Practice Nurses are employed in clinical practice, school-based health, home health, public health, acute and long-term care settings.

This program will prepare advanced practice nurses to provide primary care to children from newborns to 21 years of age in a variety of settings. The added DNP will create nursing leaders who can address emerging issues in child health; such as the increasing diversity of immigrant children, chronic illness, and protection issues. Upon completion of the Pediatric Advanced Practice Nurse track, students are eligible for Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification through the American Nurses' Association and the National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses.
