The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is based at UMDMJ's Newark and Stratford campuses. Upon completion of the Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner track, students are eligible for the Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Role and Qualifications: The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track/Doctor of Nursing Practice program at UMDNJ-SN is for bachelor's-prepared RNs seeking a doctoral degree. The program will prepare advanced practice nurses to provide comprehensive psychiatric-mental health care across the life span to individuals, groups and families in diverse settings. The added DNP will create nursing leaders who address emerging issues in psychiatric-mental health, such as family and community violence, prevention of psychiatric illness, and co-morbidity. Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners are employed in community agencies, state and county psychiatric hospitals, and long term care settings.
Scope of Practice: The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive care to individuals, groups and families across the life span in diverse settings focusing on the improvement in the psychiatric mental health quality of life using evidenced based practice. The Advanced Practice Role in grounded in the nursing, neurobiological, social, psychological and behavioral sciences.
