CLDR5101 Clinical Nurse Leader Role Perspectives

This course introduces students to the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) role and examines the expected CNL role competencies. The CNL role will be contrasted with other nursing and health care provider roles. Relevant professional and practice standards will be discussed. Self-assessments of leadership style, communication style, conflict management style, and advocacy skills will be completed and analyzed to form a self-development plan for upcoming semesters.
NURS5104 Advanced Pathophysiology

This course describes the disordered physiology and clinical consequences resulting from common disease processes. Seminar discussions focus on alterations in normal functions of major organ systems. Through problem-solving exercises and case studies, students are encouraged to recognize the pathophysiologic basis of clinical findings associated with disease processes. This course serves as an essential link between the basic sciences and clinical management.
CLDR5203 Information Technology Knowledge Management

Information technology and knowledge management includes traditional and developing methods of discovering, retrieving, and using information in nursing practice. Knowledge of and effective use of information technology is necessary for evidence-based practice, appropriate health teaching, and tracking of outcomes. Performance measurement includes information on health care outcomes, community health, epidemiological data, critical pathways and practice guidelines, administrative, payor, staff, cost, and financial performance, competitive comparisons, customer satisfaction, and corporate governance and compliance. Data are used in the quality improvement and risk reduction/safety process.
NURS5105 Clinical Pharmacology

This course expands students’ knowledge of clinical pharmacology to provide a sound basis from which to engage in prescriptive drug management. Pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics of drug classes are explored through a variety of teaching-learning methodologies, including seminar discussion, problem-based case study presentations, focused readings, and web-based exercises.
CSPD5107 Clinical Skills and Physical Diagnosis

This course presents information that expands the student’s knowledge base related to current health patterns across the lifespan. In addition, faculty facilitates students’ acquisition of advanced skills in the collection of subjective data and performance of an adult physical and mental status examination. Students interpret data acquired through the assessment of adults and the results of laboratory and diagnostic tests.
NURS6200 Advanced Health Promotion Across Diverse Cultures

Analysis of the impact of socio-cultural, ecological and systems of care delivery factors on healthcare disparities across population groups. Emphasis is on application of sociocultural and nursing theories and methods in analyzing healthcare phenomena within the context of advanced practice nursing roles in shaping community-based care and population-based systems delivery.

This course prepares students with the leadership, management and communication skills needed in public health to guide staff, advocate for individuals, populations and communities, and assure a safe and quality care environment. Students will apply these concepts to public
health issues and develop skills and resources to develop their own leadership and management style. Major theories and models of leadership, management, communication,
problem solving, decision-making, ethical analysis, and approaches to change in leadership at the organizational, diverse care teams and community level are applied.

This course prepares students with the leadership and communication skills needed to guide clinical staff, advocate for clients, and assure a care environment that facilitates professional nursing standards and quality of care. Theories emphasizing horizontal leadership, communication, problem solving, decision making, and ethical analysis will be applied to guiding and working within interdisciplinary and diverse care teams.
NURS5102 Nursing Research

Students focus on the theoretical and scientific underpinnings for evidence-based advanced nursing practice. In-depth critical analysis of scientific research, and methods for systematic reviews, as relevant to patient care and health policy outcomes, are emphasized. Ethical, legal, economic, and cultural issues surrounding the conduct and utilization of research practice are examined.
CLDR5305 Clinical Nurse Leadership Role Practicum

A guided experience for students, the practicum requires supervised field work in a health care institution. The seminar covers practice issues, professional skills development, and issues related to the role of clinical nurse leader.
