Gerontological NP (GNP) MSN dual focus program
The Adult Health Nurse Practitioner (ANP) and Gerontological Nurse Practitioner (GNP) MSN dual focus program is based at UMDNJ’s Newark and Stratford campuses. Graduates are eligible to become certifi ed as Adult Health Nurse Practitioners and Gerontological Nurse Practitioners. Graduates are eligible for certifi cation in the State of New Jersey as advanced practice nurses with prescriptive authority.
Role and Qualifications: The Advanced Practice Nurse in Adult and Gerontological Health has a Master of Science
in Nursing (MSN) degree and advanced preparation in the assessment and management of changing health patterns
in this entire patient population. The APN is distinguished by graduate preparation, supervised clinical practicum
experience, and a depth of knowledge which supports advanced clinical practice and leadership in nursing.
Scope of Practice: The APN in Adult and Gerontological Health assesses and collaboratively manages the healthcare
needs of adults and older adults in diverse health services delivery settings and implements a scientific, evidence based rationale for practice.
