Gerontological Nurse Practitioner MSN program
The Gerontological Nurse Practitioner MSN program is based at UMDNJ’s Newark and Stratford campuses. Graduates are eligible for certification to practice as gerontological nurse practitioners. Graduates are eligible for certification the State of New Jersey as advanced practice nurses with prescriptive authority.
Role and Qualifications: The Advanced Practice Nurse in Gerontological Health has a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree and advanced preparation in the assessment and management of changing health patterns in older adults. The APN is distinguished by graduate preparation, supervised clinical practicum experience, and a depth of knowledge which supports advanced clinical practice and leadership in nursing.
Scope of Practice: The APN in Gerontological Health assesses and collaboratively manages the healthcare needs
of older adults in diverse health services delivery settings and implements a scientific, evidence-based rationale for
practice.
