Melissa MordecaiUMDNJ Degrees: ASN 2001 (Middlesex County College/UMDNJ)
BSN 2006 (Ramapo College/UMDNJ); MSN Acute Care NP (in progress, Stratford campus)

Activities: Past president and past government affairs chair of the West Central Chapter of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA)

Personal Statement: I am a strong supporter of the UMDNJ-School of Nursing.  I feel that I received a valuable education when I obtained my ASN and therefore decided to pursue my career further at the Ramapo College of New Jersey campus and obtain a BSN.  I am currently enrolled in UMDNJ's Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program.  This demonstrates my belief in the strong education that UMDNJ provides.  I think it is important to have an Alumni Association for the current students to use as a resource and to have as a support system throughout their academic career.  I would like to contribute to the students and fellow alumni by being their voice and being a resource when it is possible.

Personal Statement: I enjoy the camaraderie and the maintaining of connections and contacts of people from one’s past and present. I enjoy the sense of belonging to the community of higher education institutions and experiences between fellow students and faculty.  As students we feel a sense of family and connection while attending school and then unfortunately we go our separate ways and lose touch. An Alumni association is a great way to reconnect, stay connected, and strengthen bonds between individuals and the university. I would love being involved or just being a member. I am proud of my degree and I know UMDNJ continues to grow in its endeavors to continue to expand and solidify the nursing program in the state of NJ.

Noel RosnerUMDNJ Degree(s) MSN Adult Acute Care NP 1995; DNP 2008 (Newark campus)
Additional education:  BSN, Rutgers University
nrosner152@aol.com

Noel serves as infectious disease, internal medicine nurse practitioner at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy and Old Bridge, NJ, and as an instructor at UMDNJ-School of Nursing.

Activities:

  • Infectious disease, internal medicine nurse practitioner, caring for many poor and underserved populations for 15 years.
  • Faculty member at UMDNJ for 14 years
  • Member, Board of Directors of the Academy of Doctors in Nursing Practice
  • Volunteer at community health screenings for lower-income individuals
  • Member of AIDS education and training consortium at Columbia University
  • Contributing author to the Davis Drug Guide for Nurses

Personal Statement: My goal is to promote membership in this association and gain acknowledgement and recognition from the other schools within the university as an active organization with a vested interest in university policies and activities. Fund raising is another interest.  When membership increases, fund raising activities can be planned.  Successful money raising activities may be able to provide a nursing scholarship or plan a "medical mission" to provide health care to the underprivileged. I would also like to see this organization promote nursing as a career with UMDNJ being the portal to an exciting future.  Considering the hundreds of graduates we have, this organization could be very successful and with strategic planning it will flourish. One last idea, a newsletter, should be developed and sent to all members and potential members on a regular basis.

Darryl is a registered nurse at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ.

Activities:
Student Teaching Assistant, named Distinguished Nursing Student Ambassador at UMDNJ-School of Nursing.

Personal Statement: I would like to serve on the Alumni Association Board of Directors because it would allow me to continue to play an active role in continuing the mission, vision and goals of the School of Nursing.  UMDNJ School of Nursing has demonstrated its commitment to clinical practice, scholarship, and advocacy for underserved populations, and the diverse communities it serves. I am a product of this mission and would like to see others follow.  UMDNJ School of Nursing is committed to being a recognized leader in innovative nursing education, evidence-based practice, scholarship, and an active force in promoting the health of the diverse communities it serves. The fact that I am able to obtain my first work experience as a registered nurse at a magnet hospital testifies to the benefit I have receive as a graduate of the school.  Expanding opportunities for education in nursing and in health; working to improve student recruitment and retention; and increasing the diversity of faculty to reflect the demographic composition of the communities served by the school of nursing are goals that I also share.  I cannot think of a better way to help continue, facilitate, and initiate the mission, vision and goals of the UMDNJ School of Nursing than to serve on the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
