UMDNJ-School of Nursing Alumni Association Names Scholarship Recipients

The UMDNJ- School of Nursing Alumni Association presented scholarships to three UMDNJ nursing students at a Celebration Brunch on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Forsgate Country Club, Monroe Township, NJ. 

This is the third year that the Alumni Association has granted scholarships to nursing students in recognition of high academic achievement and service to school and community. This year’s scholarship awards of $1000 each were presented as follows:

• Khadijah Abass, a BSN student on the Newark campus, received the Noel Rosner Memorial Scholarship;
• Joseph Drogo, a student in the MSN program specializing in Acute Critical Care, received the Alumni Association Scholarship; and
• Elizabeth Ronan, a BSN student on the Stratford campus,  received the Raymond Scarpa Sr. Memorial Scholarship.

The Celebration Brunch featured the 16th Annual Induction Ceremony for UMDNJ’s Omicron Pi Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. The chapter inducted 113 students, selected for outstanding academic achievement. The keynote speaker for the event was  Dr. Joyce Hyatt, an assistant professor and alumna of UMDNJ-School of Nursing, who presented  “Global Health: Providing Maternal-Child Health Care in a Developing Country.”
