Continuing Education for Registered Nurses

Each day begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.

This intense, three-day course will teach you to conduct a comprehensive head-to-toe assessment, exploring all major systems; abnormal versus normal. In-depth exploration of clinical and interviewing skills and the application of the nursing process will prepare you to successfully assess and intervene.

Objectives

1. Review health and physical assessment skills for registered nurses.
2. Utilize interviewing techniques to obtain comprehensive health data.
3. Improve clinical skills of inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation.
4. Identify and document normal findings.

Curriculum

Course materials will be supplied. Students must supply their own stethoscopes (available for sale at the UMDNJ bookstore on the Newark campus).

• Day #1-Interviewing Skills, Taking a Health History, Assessment of the Skin, Head and Neck, Eyes, Ears, Mouth, Throat, Nose, and Sinuses.
• Day #2-Assessment of the Thorax and Lungs, Cardiovascular, Peripheral Vascular, Breast and Lymphatic Systems.
• Day #3-Assessment of the Abdomen, Musculoskeletal, Neurological Systems and Putting it all together.

All Others: $400.00

• Practicum Examination by arrangement for a fee of $75.00
