Honors Convocation 2008

Held on Monday, May 19th at NJPAC, Newark, NJ at 5:00 p.m.
Graduates must arrive early (arrival time 2:15) for robing, photos and line-up. Guests will be allowed into the auditorium beginning at 4:30 p.m.

We are pleased to announce that the keynote speaker is Dr. Geraldine Bednash, Executive Director of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

 

Before Convocation:

  • Order Your Academic Attire-Newark and Stratford graduates: order your own cap and gown online before April 8 http://www.herffjones.com/college/graduation.

    Middlesex, Ramapo and Rowan graduates bring their attire from their campus.
  • Order your Nursing Pin (optional).

    At Convocation, ABSN candidates will be "pinned" by a faculty member. The order forms for purchasing your own nursing pin are attached. Please note: there are different forms for Newark and Stratford campus students. Be sure to use the correct form to ensure proper processing. (If you do not purchase a nursing pin, you will still participate in the "pinning ceremony" while receiving a souvenir ribbon.)

    Orders should be placed immediately, as they can take 6 weeks to process, plus delivery time. If 10 or more students place a joint order, the $9.45 delivery fee will be waived for that order.

  • Invitation to Convocation will be mailed to graduating students' permanent address in early April.
  • RSVP-We must receive your response by April 28th so that we may mail your admission tickets.
  • Tickets-NJPAC requires that no one be admitted without a ticket. Graduates, faculty and selected guests will be assigned seating. Seating for graduates' family and friends will be general admission. Please be sure the number of tickets you request is accurate. No tickets will be held at the door.
  • Pick Up Your Cap and Gown -They will be available for pick-up at the campus you specified on your order form, weekdays, during normal business hours from May 12 through NOON on May 16. Once you receive your cap and gown open the package and hang up the gown and hood to release wrinkles and or iron them with a warm iron setting.
  • Dining Arrangements -Refreshment carts will be open prior to the ceremony in the NJPAC lobby where you may purchase beverages and light snacks. Graduates and faculty will be provided with light refreshments in the robing room. For dining after the ceremony, NJPAC offers Theater Square Grill (932-642-1226), which features contemporary American cuisine. Reservations are advised.

On the Day of Convocation: (Pinning Ceremony)

  • Bring your Academic Attire-Cap, Gown Hood and Tassel (and Nursing Pin). You will not be permitted to participate in the ceremony without the attire. All Accelerated BSN graduates will receive a ribbon from the School of Nursing at Convocation. If you ordered a pin, you can affix it to the ribbon for the pinning ceremony.
  • Parking and Directions-Secure underground and surface parking is available with designated parking for handicapped patrons. The special event rate for parking is $8 to $12. For more details and driving directions, visit njpac.org.
  • Arrival Time- Graduates, arrival time is 2:15 pm. Guests may enter NJPAC and be seated beginning 4:30 p.m. The ceremony will begin promptly at 5 p.m.
  • Proceed promptly to the Student Robing Room for robing and line up in the designated order.
    Please bring all of your needed belongings with you because you will be asked to remain in the room once you report.
  • Photographs-A professional photographer will photograph each student during the ceremony. Photos will be available for sale at www.islandphoto.com.
    Group photos will be taken before the ceremony. Graduates will be asked to arrive at 2:15 to be included.
  • Prepare your Attire for Convocation- Hang (and iron if necessary) Be sure your cap fits, bring hair pins if necessary.
  • Plan to Return Your Cap and Gown-Students attending Commencement will return their cap, gown, and university ID badge after Commencement ceremony when they pick up their diplomas. Students not attending Commencement ceremony must return their cap & gown (and ID) to the office where they were picked up by May 23 in order to avoid a penalty fee or hold on their diploma.   • Special Needs at Convocation - If you or a guest needs special accommodation at Convocation, such as wheelchair seating, please notify us by May 10th.
