Lexicomp, Typhon & PDA Requirements

To All Incoming and Returning Graduate Students:

Welcome to the UMDNJ School of Nursing. This is an exciting time in your academic career and I wish to take this opportunity to highlight how the School of Nursing has incorporated point-of-care technology utilizing personal digital assistants (PDA) into the MSN curriculum.

You will be required to purchase two software programs. The first is Lexi-COMPLETE, Lexi-Comp's premier PDA software package which provides access to all Lexi-Comp databases, including complementary licensed content. Students have the ability to link seamlessly between all available databases, including Lexi-DRUGS and Lexi-INTERACT.

Lexi-COMPLETE includes: Lexi-Drugs, Lexi-Interact, Pediatric Lexi-Drugs, Lexi-Pharmacogenomics, Lexi-Natural Products, Lexi-Infectious Diseases, Lexi-Poisoning & Toxicology, Lexi-NBCA (Nuclear, Biological, & Chemical Agent) Exposures, Lexi-Lab & Diagnostic Procedures, Lexi-Companion Guides, Lexi-I.V. Compatibility, Lexi-Drug ID, Nursing Lexi-Drugs, Perioperative Nursing Lexi-Drugs, Dental Lexi-Drugs, Lexi-PALS, Lexi-CALC, Harrison's Practice, The 5-Minute Pediatric Consult, Stedman’s Medical Dictionary for the Health Professions and Nursing, Medical Abbreviations by Neil Davis, Pharmacotherapy Handbook by Wells, Plus - selected Lexi-Comp ON-HAND software databases released during your subscription period

It is recommended that either a Palm TX or Palm Tungsten E2 be utilized although other brands may be suitable. Memory cards are purchased separately to expand your storage capability.

Software purchased separately through Lexi-Comp will be installed free of charge. Students may also purchase their PDA through the UMDNJ Bookstore. Installation of the Lexi-Comp software can then be downloaded and installed by the student.

Lexi-Comp Support is available by calling 1-866-397-3433, option 3. Telephone support is available Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. EST, and Saturday through Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST. Answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) are also available.

Please note that since mobile/cellular telephones are not permitted in the practicum setting, PDA with telephone technology is not acceptable

Typhon NPST™ - Nurse Practitioner Student Tracking System

Designed for all nurse practitioner programs, Typhon Group’s NPST™ System is an electronic way to simplify collection of each student’s patient encounter logs that need to be tracked when they are out on their clinical rotations.

All UMDNJ Nurse Practitioner/Nurse Midwifery students are required to purchase and install this product on their desktop/laptop computer as well as their handheld Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). You will be required to input patient data throughout each semester and are expected to send to your instructor(s) electronically for review and grading.

Students are required to provide a printout of this data to their respective agencies at the time of Board Certification application.

Instructions:

1. Log onto the Typhon NPST™ - Nurse Practitioner Student Tracking System Student Tutorial at: http://www.typhongroup.net/np/videos/students.htm
2. You are required to watch all three (3) tutorial sessions (total length approximately 65 minutes).
3. At the completion, you will e-mail your clinical instructor who will send an e-mail to your student UMDNJ E-mail address with your LOG-IN and PASSWORD
4. You will then go to: https://www.typhongroup.net/np/data/login.asp at which time you will log-in and purchase for one-time fee of $75.00 with a credit card.
5. After one (1) semester of use, you will be able to access Typhon through your palm/PDA device for an additional $25.00 fee payable to Typhon with a credit card.
