Center for Academic Success
Learner Centered - Student Focused
October 1, 2007
Dear Student:
I wish to encourage all qualified students to participate in the Student Nurse Ambassadors Program offered through the UMDNJ School of Nursing Center for Academic Success (CAS). We are now accepting applications for Academic and Community Ambassadors.
The Student Ambassadors serve as the School of Nursing’s premier student liaisons. They interface with students currently enrolled in nursing programs as well as prospective students.
The Student Ambassadors are student volunteers whose primary role is to assist the School of Nursing in providing tutorial services and community services via the CAS Office.
If selected, you will work with the Office of the Dean, the Office of Student Services, and CAS on special events including, but not limited to, community outreach events, such as health fairs. Ambassadors also assist with recruitment programs and cultural celebrations.
Academic Ambassadors tutor their peers and/or offer small group enrichment laboratories each week that coincide with specific course curriculum. Students participating must have a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
Similarly, you must have a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average in order to serve as a Community Ambassador. Acting as a Community Ambassador will afford you the opportunity to engage in outreach activities sponsored by the School of Nursing, UMDNJ, and the local community at-large. Community Ambassadors are student volunteers who also act as Peer Student Facilitators for the School of Nursing by providing peer leadership to initial students through the Office of Student Services. All Ambassadors will be required to volunteer at least two (2) hours per week, and will participate in a mandatory training meeting.
Please pick up an application form in CAS, and return it to Donita Walker, Director, Center for Academic Success (Room1124).
Best Wishes!
Sincerely,
Susan Salmond, EdD, RN
Interim Dean
